Why do we teach sounds before letter names?

In the early stages, knowing that ‘C’ is called “See” doesn’t help a child read the word “Cat.” By teaching the sound /k/ first, your child can immediately begin blending and reading words.

Why isn't it taught in alphabetical order (A, B, C...)?

The Jolly Phonics order is designed for speed. By starting with sounds like s, a, t, i, p, n, a child can already read and write dozens of words (like sat, pin, tap) within their first week of lessons!

How do you handle 42 sounds with only 26 letters?

English uses combinations of letters (digraphs) to create unique sounds. We teach these as single units (like or, ee, ng) so children aren’t confused when they encounter complex words.

What is the difference between Print and Precursive?

At LSPE, we guide you on the best choice for your child. Print is the standard block lettering found in most books. Precursive adds “flicks” or lead-ins to letters, which prepares children’s hands for joined-up (cursive) writing later on.
