The London School of Phonics & English

More Than Just ABCs

Why We Use the World’s Leading Literacy Framework.

At the London School of Phonics and English, we don’t just ask children to memorize the alphabet; we teach them to master the code of the English language. Using a multi-sensory approach involving actions, stories, and songs, we make the journey to literacy fun, engaging, and scientifically effective.

The 5 Pillars of Our Phonics Program

A Structured Foundation in Phonics

Building essential sound recognition and early reading skills through a clear, step-by-step phonics approach.

The 42 Letter Sounds

We go beyond the 26 letters of the alphabet to teach the 42 core sounds of English, including "digraphs" like sh, th, and ai.

Jolly Phonics

Letter Formation

Through our Daily Dictation, students learn the physical skill of writing, moving from simple pencil grip to fluent, neat sentences.

Blending for Reading

We teach children how to "synthesize" or pull sounds together to decode unfamiliar words fluently.

Segmenting for Spelling

By learning to hear the individual sounds in a word, our students become confident, independent spellers early on.

Mastering Tricky Words

We provide special strategies for "exception" words that don't follow regular rules, ensuring reading flow is never interrupted.

The LSPE Advantage: Building Strong Reading Foundations

Why Our Phonics Program Stands Out.

  • While you may find these resources elsewhere, LSPE provides a Full Premium Digital Subscription to the Jolly Phonics suite. This means your child has 24/7 access to the same e-readers and games used in our lessons, ensuring they can practice and progress even when class is over.

Frequently Asked Questions (Jolly Phonics at LSPE)

Why do we teach sounds before letter names?

In the early stages, knowing that ‘C’ is called “See” doesn’t help a child read the word “Cat.” By teaching the sound /k/ first, your child can immediately begin blending and reading words.

Why isn't it taught in alphabetical order (A, B, C...)?

The Jolly Phonics order is designed for speed. By starting with sounds like s, a, t, i, p, n, a child can already read and write dozens of words (like sat, pin, tap) within their first week of lessons!

How do you handle 42 sounds with only 26 letters?

English uses combinations of letters (digraphs) to create unique sounds. We teach these as single units (like or, ee, ng) so children aren’t confused when they encounter complex words.

What is the difference between Print and Precursive?

At LSPE, we guide you on the best choice for your child. Print is the standard block lettering found in most books. Precursive adds “flicks” or lead-ins to letters, which prepares children’s hands for joined-up (cursive) writing later on.

Is this program officially recognized?

Yes. Jolly Phonics is a validated program by the UK Department for Education. At LSPE, we combine this validated curriculum with Native UK & US teachers to ensure the highest standard of authentic delivery.
